The Earth is turning her face to the sun as spring arrives. Sometimes she gets a gentle kiss on the cheek, other days she gets a slap in the face while the iffy weather changes.

Easter egg hunts have long been a tradition in Clear Lake. Early on they are mentioned in the newspapers as private events. Some were backyard parties at kids homes, some at individual churches.

In the 1950’s they rose to new heights. The Chamber, JC’s, and Parks department all took lead roles in various years to put on a show. In 1951 the day was to begin with a parade led by the high school band. Sadly that was one of the many years when snow and ice canceled the plans.

An Easter Bonnet was a necessity for the stylish woman. These beautiful ladies posed in their new frocks and hats on Easter Sunday 1927. Do you recognize anyone? These great photos are from the Library History Collection.

The picture of colorful eggs and excited kids are from a recent Easter Egg Hunt at Central Gardens. Check this year’s Chamber calendar to find out where your kid can look for eggs. There are free events on both Saturday the 12th and Saturday the 19th. May your basket be full and the weather warm and sunny.
