This weekend Clear Lake is holding another round of city wide garage sales. There will no doubt be some fantastic bargains to be found.
In the late 1950’s and 1960’s Clear Lake merchants sponsored Ridiculous Days. And they were!!
Competitions to be the most ridiculous were hard fought. Winners vowed to up their game from year to year. The celebration lasted all day, beginning at breakfast and ending with fireworks.
The streets were packed with bargain seekers looking for a ridiculous great deal or two.
As Clear Lakes calendar got filled with more and more events drawing shoppers to town, the need for a designated day declined.
Iowa’s tax free weekend signifies the back to school shopping season these days. Not as ridiculous but still a good deal.
