How did that happen? Summer has moved with astonishing speed! It’s here again. Another year of school is upon us with all kinds of possibilities.
Kids sporting new clothes will be posing for the first day of school photos, parents behind the camera smiling like Cheshire Cats. Families once more establish routines and make plans according to the school calendar.
Clear Lake has always embraced educating our future citizens. From classes taught by Elizabeth Gardner in James Hewitt’s cabin to the classrooms of today, kids expand their knowledge.
Beginning in 1857 with the first school built, the years have seen many buildings come and go. Several were consumed by fire including the 1911 school, subsequent Central School and the High School turned Junior High.
One old school remains on the corner east of the Library. The Clausen house school building is now used for other purposes, but still standing.
Also repurposed is Sunset School elementary.
Lincoln school has been torn down but souvenir bricks remind Clear Lakers she was filled with children for decades.
Busses pick up and deliver precious cargo, school bells ring, lessons are learned and the years continue to roll on.
